DOL issuing major fines to local Hawaii businesses

Several businesses recently have been fined recently due to incorrectly paying wages to their employees. Whether or not it was done on purpose doesn't seem to matter, and the fines being issued are sending a stern message to local business owners. The DOL is informing local business owners that they have the tools and information on their website to deter and avoid these types of issues and fines, but many employers are struggling to get their payroll done to the best of their abilities on time each week or every other.

A seafood trading organization just got fined $117,718 in back wages to it’s 33 employees. An Indian restaurant was also cited for not paying wages correctly and was fined roughly $81,000 to make up for their mistakes. A popular Filipino chain restaurant was also fined over 100K because the company failed to pay for missed or partial meal breaks.
